This box is decorated with sadeli, a geometric micromosaic composed of various woods, metals and ivory, arranged in patterns as a border or veneer over the wooden carcass. Such work was much practised in western India, especially in and around Bombay, for which reason objects of this type were described under the blanket heading 'Bombay boxes.' The lid of the box is configured for cribbage and the interior is divided into three compartments - two for cribbage pegs and one for a pack of cards.
