This poster was created in response to the Greek military coup of 1967 that resulted in the deposition of Constantine II and established the rule of the colonels under Papadopoulos. The designer K. Mistakidi (a name which implies Greek origin) uses powerful imagery in order to convey the suffering of the Greek people and condemn the dictatorial regime that suppressed them. The intention is to show the solidarity and support of the Soviet Union - and thus spread communist doctrine.

Physical description

Greek flag with white cross and stripes on a blue background. The blue square and white cross are depicted as prison windows with men and women looking at the viewer in desperation. A black swastika is superimposed over the cross. The slogan's red letters appear as though written in blood.
