Engraving of Thalie, Seconde Grace. The muse said to preside over 'Comedy' in the Greek tradition. She is dressed in a mid to late eighteenth century style silk gown. The overdress trimmed with lace and the underdress or petticoat with a patterned border at the hem. Her hair is piled up under a lace headress. Seated on a stone plinth she carries a spray of flowers in her left hand whilst the right reaches out to a fruit tree. The caption below the image and its title are in French and refer to the comedy with which this 'muse' is associated. Harry Beard Collection.
