In the centre is the sacred monogram I H S (for Jesus) with a cross and a fleur-de-lys, surrounded by rays symbolising the sun. This symbol is especially associated with the vision of St Bernardino of Siena, founder of the cult of the Holy Name in the fifteenth century.
