Object history | Letters can be used as decoration, though they sometimes become unreadable (case 31). No such criticism can be levelled at this famous classical alphabet, taken from Trajan's column in Rome. The column was built in 114 AD by Apollodorus of Damascus, and is carved in low relief to show the emperor Trajan's battles. |
