The vase prints of Giovanni Battista Piranesi had a great influence on the design of English silver from about 1800 to 1840. The design of the cup is inspired by a Piranesi print of a Roman cinerary urn. Interestingly, Cuitt has copied Piranesi's etching manner in this print.
