Place of origin |
This print by Jean Le Pautre shows a highly decorated garden vase in the Baroque style. His designs were often, as seen here, shaped as imaginary jugs or ewers, when in fact, actual garden vases of the period were more restrained. The vase is shown in a landscape with buildings in the background. The design uses layers of motifs: nymph and human figures, putti, acanthus leaves, masks and flower patterns.
