Place of origin

Mrs Park Young Sook makes monumental porcelain jars and more delicate table wares in her studio near Seoul. She is best known as the doyenne of the contemporary moon jar, a ceramic form that expresses the sense of gracious austerity that distinguishes Korean ceramic arts from those of other countries.

In addition to her remarkable moon jars, Mrs Park also produces beautiful table wares, painted in the reds and blues associated with porcelain production in late traditional Korea. This bowl, thinly potted and with a subtle application of copper red pigment over a layer of blue on the inner wall, is an example of her decorated table ware.
