This etching from about 1690 was published by Nicolas Langlois and it is a part of a set called Dessins de divers ornemens et moulures. The baroque style of the 17th century encouraged the use of a huge number of different decorated mouldings. Some of them are shown here, with their names. Baroque style, popular in Europe from the 17th to the mid 18th century, was characterised by dramatic, ornate and curving forms, often inspired by nature.
