Historical context
Vessels of this type (cherukku) were used for cooking sweet rice gruel (payasam) in temple festivals and domestic rituals. A similar vessel, acquired from a Nambudri Brahmin House is in the National Museum for Far Eastern Antiquities collections in Stockholm, Sweden, No.VK 5898:1, Untracht, Oppi, Metal Marvels: South Asian Handworks, Porvoo, Finland, 1993, no 45, p.36
