  • Ward-Jackson, Peter, Italian Drawings. Volume I. 14th-16th century, London, 1979, p. 32 The following is the full text of the entry: BANDINELLI, BACCIO Bartolommeo Bandinelli (1493-1560) 30 Bacchus and a seated panther Inscribed '27' and in a tablet on the mount 'Bandinelli, Baccio Filius' Pen and ink with slight wash 16 ¾ x 10 ¼ (425 x 260) Dyce 158 PROVENANCE P. J. Mariette (Lugt 1852); Count Moritz von Fries (Lugt 2903); Dyce Bequest 1869 LITERATURE Dyce Catalogue no. 158 (as by Baccio Bandinelli) Since neither Baccio’s father nor either of his sons was named Baccio, it is not clear who is meant by Baccio Bandinelli Filius. Presumably Baccio himself, who was the son of a well known goldsmith Michelangelo. It would be odd to refer to Clemente or the younger Michelangelo, Baccio’s two sons, in this oblique way. Though Mariette’s mark is on the drawing and the mount is of the blue shade he used, the inscription is not characteristically written or framed and may have been added by another collector.
