The following is the full text of the entry: GARGULO, DOMENICO called Micco Spadaro (?1612 -?before 1665, or possibly 1679) 701 Cupid held captive by a faun and scourged by Venus Pen and ink 6 1/8 x 7 5/8 (155 x 193) Dyce 351 PROVENANCE P. J. Mariette (Lugt 1852); Count Moriz von Fries (Lugt 2903); Dyce Bequest 1869 LITERATURE Dyce Catalogue no. 351 (as by Gargiulo) Mariette's blue mount has been detached from the drawing, but a small piece of it, containing the usual cartouche, with the name Gargiulo inscribed within it, has been cut out and pasted on the back of the later mount. Mariette's attribution is confirmed by another drawing in the Museum (no. 702), which is by the same hand and likewise bears an old, probably a contemporary attribution to Gargiulo.
