Castiglione' Brown oil paint, partly coloured in red, blue and green 11 X 15 (280 X 381) Dyce 346 PROVENANCE Dyce Bequest 1869 LITERATURE Dyce Catalogue no. 346 (as by Castiglione); Exhibition Catalogue Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione Master Draughtsman of the Italian Baroque, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 1971, no. 99; pl. 99 Ann Percy dates the drawing towards the end of the 1650s in the catalogue quoted. She suggests that the artist may have been inspired by recollections of Bernini's famous Daphne and Apollo.
