  • Ward-Jackson, Peter, Italian Drawings Volume I. 14th-16th century, London: Her Majesty's Stationary Office, 1979, p. 197. The text is as follows: school of ZUCCARO, FREDERICO 427 The Adoration of the Sheperds Inscribed in ink on the mount in an 18th century hand ‘Bassano’; and again on the back in the same hand ‘From B. West’s collection’ Pen and ink and wash on faded blue paper; squared in red chalk 16 5/8 x 10 ¾ (422 x 273) Dyce 231 PROVENANCE Unidentified collector BW (initials on back in ink similar to Lugt, Supplement 419a); Dyce Bequest 1869 LITERATURE Dyce Catalogue no. 231 (as by Jacopo Bassano) The old attribution to Bassano, kept in the department until lately, is clearly incorrect. The influence of Ferderico Zuccaro is evident in the handling, but the drawing is hardly by him.
