Luxury hosiery and lingerie company, Wolford, was founded in Austria in 1949 by Walter Palmers and Reinhold Wolf. The brand is known for combining traditional quality with technical innovation. In the 1990s they began a series of collaborations with well-known designers to create limited edition pieces. They have worked with design houses such as Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld and Emilio Pucci. In 1997, Wolford commissioned Philippe Starck to produce an all-in-one dress. The result was titled 'StarckNaked with Wolford'. Though Starck is not considered a fashion designer, his wide range of industrial products (everything from hotels, boats and cars to furniture, luggage and cutlery) does include some clothing and accessories. The 'StarckNaked' dress is made up of opaque tights attached by a thick band at their waist to a long tube of stretchable fabric. It can be worn in three different ways: as a skirt, tube dress or strappy dress (using the two detachable straps). The length of these styles can then be changed through gathering or stretching the fabric.
