Place of origin

The architects Herzog and de Meuron collaborated with the photographer Thomas Ruff to create this hybrid piece of architecture and photography. Ruff's appropriated the newspaper image of a Bauhaus style building by Georg Muche, which was used as the basis for an image transferred on to the concrete panel.

This panel gives a fascinating twist to the idea of architectural photography, placing the image of architecture within the fabric of the building material itself.
