Place of origin

This outfit, consisting of a Walé Adeyemi bikini top, Alexander McQueen jeans, an All Saints bomber jacket, Silja Mannien string vest, and Adidas trainers, was styled by Cynthia Lawrence-John for the 'Black British Style' exhibition at the V&A in 2004. This ensemble was meant to ‘create a meeting of different references’- from seventies retro detailing to less obvious versions of black street clothing such as the string vest or shredded jeans of Ragga style. Walé Adeyemi and Alexander McQueen are both designers whose work interprets cultural notes within the realm of high fashion.
