This woven cotton furnishing fabric was designed by Harry Napper in about 1902. Napper worked for the Silver Studio design firm from 1893, and left in 1898 to work on a freelance basis. He produced a range of successful stylised floral patterns, which clearly showed the influence of European Art Nouveau design. This example is very typical, and uses a fashionable poppy motif. It was sold at the London department store Liberty & Co, which retailed many fabrics designed by Napper and the Silver Studio.
