Dress Fabric

1970 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This dress fabric is a remnant of the bridesmaid dresses which were worn on Laura Beare's wedding day. Beare commissioned Zandra Rhodes, who had just begun her fashion career in 1969, to design both her wedding dress as well as the dresses for the bridal party. Along with the wedding dress, the bridesmaid's dresses are exemplary of Rhodes' use of innovative prints and bold colour combinations. Rhodes' screen-printed and hand-painted textiles give the garments a unique quality. Beare donated the petticoat and headscarf worn with the dress.
