Trouser Suit

2002 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This ensemble is an early example of See by Chloé. Created in 2001, it is a more affordable and casual line than Chloé, yet still retains a luxurious feel.

This ensemble follows on from the designer denim fad of the 1990s, when denim rose from street style to high fashion. Prior to the 1970s, trouser suits for women were not widely accepted as formal wear. By the late 20th century, they had become a fashionable wardrobe staple. By incorporating distinctive details such as pinstripes, raw edges and accessories into this denim ensemble, the wearer might feel appropriately dressed at any occasion.

The donor purchased the suit at a shop in St Germain, Paris. She wore it with a white cotton cardigan and a white leather gilet and black leather belt. She often wore it to travel in, and liked its combination of stylish, fitted cut and frayed, distressed edges.
