Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This dress was worn by Mrs Feldman, the wife of a former production manager for Cresta Silks Ltd. She wore this dress and other Cresta designs to promote her husband’s employer.

Cresta Silks, a textile manufacturer in Hertforshire, was founded in 1929 by Tom Heron (1890-1983). It specialised in the production of innovative block-printed silk dress fabrics designed by leading British painters such as Paul Nash and Cedric Morris. While the Museum's collection includes several examples of Cresta's designs, they are mainly artist-designed silks from the 1930s and 1940s; this is a rare example in the V&A's collection of a post-war Cresta textile made into a garment.
