Petticoat
ca. 1945 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This half-slip was designed by Odette Barsa in the 1940s. With its appliqué and hand embroidery the design is typical of Barsa's luxurious lingerie. Barsa began production in 1943 in New York.
Slips made with this kind of detailed handwork would have been unusual in 1940s Britain due to wartime restrictions, but in America these materials and small luxuries were more plentiful. The donor purchased this slip in New York, along with two others, as part of her wedding trousseau.
