This tunic was designed to be worn at the seaside either over a bathing costume, or over slim, pegged 'Capri' trousers. The owner wore it on holiday to the French Riviera. It is an early design from the Italian sportswear label Pucci, founded by Emilio Pucci in 1949.
Pucci's clothing became popular with the designer's sophisticated, well-traveled clients. This tunic's loose shape is representative of the informal designs Pucci produced at this time. However, its monochrome print is less typical-- Pucci's later designs featured bold prints with vibrant swirls of colour.

| Physical description | Beach tunic of white cotton printed with poodle motif. Within the poodle print are the words 'Emilio', 'Pucci' and 'Capri'. On the front are two angled double welt pockets. The wide boat-shaped neckline includes a small collar on the back. There are buttons at both shoulders; the left shoulder button is functional as a closure, the other is decorative. |
