Object history | Acquired for £1 from Bruyne, Mechlin, per Mr Pollen. This type of double-bulbed baluster was one of the first to become popular in the early 1400s. The resemblance between the clasping acanthus leaves and the pomegranate flower gave the baluster its name (balustro, Italian: pomegranate flower). |
