Textile design, probably for silk tie fabric. The design was made some time between 1947 and 1965 by Oskar Ehrenzweig, a Vienna-born designer who moved to London in 1938. The pattern imitates ceramic tiles, but has been painted in gouache with great precision on a very small scale (it is just 75mm square).
