Physical description
This final drawing for an engraving belongs to Hokusai's Shunro period (1779-1794). It is one of ten works forming the earliest known group of signed paintings by Hokusai from this time. The style of the signature found on this drawing was used by Hokusai from 1784 onwards. Chuban size. Signature: Shunro ga

Purchased from Mr. Hogitaro Inada, accessioned in 1910. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
