Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Panel of burgundy coloured cotton textile, with fruits and vegetables printed on. Interspersed between the flowers are symbols of the Proletarian Revolution. Motifs of school bags and stationery with rural scenery in the background symbolise the "Down to the Countryside Movement" (in which urban youth were sent down to the countryside to reform them from their bourgeois background) during the Communist, and later, Cultural Revolution. Electric poles in the foreground of the countryside and hydroelectric dams, hoes pictured next to machine cogs are harbingers of China's harmonious technological and agricultural progress under Communist leadership; filled bales of rice along with the huge fruit and vegetable prints promote full harvests (no hunger under Communist leadership); happy young people walking in line amidst mountains promote Communist propaganda of a reformed new generation.
