Dress

1812-1815 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Girl's dress of white muslin embroidered from the hem with a floral design in coloured wools. The dress has a high-waisted bodice, vertically-gathered puffed sleeves and a trained skirt. The bodice fastens at the back (it has been altered and possibly reversed). The skirt and quarter-sleeves are rather full and simply cut. The embroidering runs round the lower hem and rises to form a large triangular panel in front: it consists of stylized floral sprigs in two shades of green, yellow, orange and mauve. There is also a similar band about the sleeves.
