Place of origin |
Set of nine comical figures representing male musicians and a conducter, wearing formal dress in the style of the first half of the nineteenth century. Some wear coats and breeches, some wear trousers and boots; all are wearing a white wig. The conductor is with a baton, and the musicians are depicted as individually playing an oboe, a flute, a violin, a clarinet, a cello, a french horn, a bassoon, a trombone and a trumpet. All are made from painted papier mache and wood. The figures are in characteristic attitudes and the expressions of the faces are somewhat grotesque. Each figure is on a separate wooden base.
