The house was designed, built and furnished as part of a college thesis. It took approximately one thousand hours to construct and the cost of materials was about one hundred pounds. The house is made from balsa wood and each room contains appropriate furniture and fittings built to scale from the same material. The playroom contains a dolls' house that is a miniature version of the house itself.

Dolls' house known as 'The Greenfield House', Victorian Gothic style dolls' house made in England in 1975
Physical description
Dolls' house in Victorian Gothic style made of balsa wood with the exterior covered in paper to represent brickwork and a grey slate roof. It is a large house with a ground floor and two upper storeys. At the front is a turret with a painted roof which gives a third upper storey of an attic room. The ground floor has a kitchen, dining room, drawing room, sitting room and music room and an entrance hall. On the first floor are five master bedrooms, with either four-poster or canopy beds, and a library. On the second floor is an artist's studio, a billiard room and three small bedrooms. Also on this floor is a playroom containing a dolls' house which is a small model of the house itself. A spiral staircase leads to the attic room, or observatory, from the hallway. Each room contains appropriate furniture and fittings built to scale from balsa wood.The front is detachable and the sides, which are hinged at the back, open outwards. The house stands on a painted base.
