Object history note

Tin-glazed earthenware (maiolica), perhaps made in Castel Durante or Urbino, with lustre added at a final firing in the workshop of Maestro Giorgio Andreadi of Gubbio

The decoration is typical of the knot-work which so interested designers in the early 16th century. Similar patterns were used on Islamic-influenced pottery made in Spain and extensively exported.
