His designs for vases had an immense influence, being copied by ceramic and other manufacturers up to the early 1800s. Ornament prints like these were published for artisans to use in the production of objects, and were responsible for spreading the influence of various decorative styles.
Della Bella mostly worked in Florence, where his clients included the Medici family, but he also spent time working in Rome and Paris. He was a leading printmaker of his time, concentrating on etching.
