This dressing table and mirror is part of a set of furniture handmade to accompany a young girl's doll (misc.1115-1991). The doll was named Elizabeth R, in commemoration of the 1953 coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Wooden dressing table with mirror and two lampshades; accompanying wooden stool with embroidered seat cushion, England, c 1953
Physical description
Polished wooden dressing table and stool. The dressing table is rectangular with solid sides and a shelf below supported by two blocks of wood attached to the inner sides. At the back is a half side, from the top to the shelf. On the top of the table is a large mirror, encased in a pale pink plastic frame and supported by a metal stand at the back which is screwed to the table top and allows slight angle changes. Either side of the mirror are two fixed lamps which are brass candlestick fittings with a long screw fitted into the top of each. Each has a lampshade of peach coloured pleated fabric with fringe.

The polished wooden stool is rectangular with solid sides, supported by a stretcher. A canvas cushion, attached to the top of the stool, is embroidered with a pink, white and blue wool diamond. The inner surfaces on both pieces of furniture are painted green.
