Miniature Furniture

1910-1930 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

All pieces are wooden, painted with a basic white and decorated with floral patterns in red, blue, yellow and green paint. The flowers are large, similar to peonies with some daisy and forget-me-not designs.

Table: X framed with a stretcher running lengthwise. The top pattern has one large central flower with leaves at one end and two purplish flowers and buttercups at the other. The design is edged by a blue wavy line. The outer side of each leg is decorated with a chain of red, yellow and green flowers and leaves, also edged with a blue line. Each side of the stretcher shows a red and yellow daisy type flower with green leaves. The narrow edges of the top and legs are painted red.

Chair: Semicircular three legged armchair with the cresting rail forming the arms. The legs, a slight S shape, extend to form the uprights supporting the cresting rail. The seat, its sides, both sides of the cresting rail and the front edges of the legs are painted to show various flowers. The side edges of the two front legs and the back edge of the rear leg are marked with a wavy green line.

Bed: Rectangle with solid ends extending to form curved feet; the headboard is slightly higher than the foot board. The entire outside surface has been painted to show various flowers; the inner surfaces of the head and foot boards have been painted at the top to show flowers and leaves. Each area has been bordered with a very dark blue line with gold on the outer side of it. Red has been used on the narrow edges of the head and foot boards and around each upper side, while green has been used down the outer sides of the legs and a wavy green line along the lower side edges.
