Toy Pistol

1850-1900 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Toy pistol, styled to resemble a flintlock, made from wood and steel. The wooden stock has a large trough cut from its top side, into which the barrel has been slid. The barrel is open at the top for a third of its length at the end nearest the trigger. The barrel is bound to the stock using steel wire. The trigger and firing mechanism are a single piece of steel, which passes through a slot on the gun's underside. Originally, it would have operated using a piece of elastic to 'fire' projectiles down the barrel.
