Fan
1890-1910 (made)
Made from ivory grosgrain, painted with scenes of childhood (after the style of Kate Greenaway), and mounted with bone sticks.
In the centre, a boy and girl are shown seated on rocks at the seaside. At the left, a girl, a boy and a small child are shown wrapped in Winter clothes and going for a walk. At the right a girl and a boy are shown in Summer clothes, picking fruit from a tree while another girl, also in Summer clothes, plays with a skipping rope.
The fan is professionally made, but the scenes are hand painted by an amateur.
