The adjustable sloping top slots into a set of notches, and stands upon a pair of X-shaped wooden legs with two stretchers; it is joined to one bar of each X at the front, and has a row of eight holes for pegs upon which to rest a drawing board, and a larger hole for a water jar.

Desk came from Brentwood County High School, Sherfield Common, Brentwood, Essex. The school was founded in 1876, became a Girls' Grammar School in 1927, and by the mid 1980s was a Comprehensive School.
