This doll was made in Germany in the 1930s by Armand Marseille, a famous doll manufacturer. Their dolls were not as elegant as the French versions being produced around the same time, but they were affordable and still quite well made.

This model is called Dixie and is made from composition. She has a hard socket head, and a body with bent limbs. She is wearing shoes that are stamped 'Made in England', indicating that these could possibly have been a later addition by the owner.

Physical description

The doll has a hard composition socket head with a bent limb composition body. It has blue glass sleeping eyes and an open mouth showing two upper teeth. The head is pink with moulded hair painted light brown. The body is cream in colour and of poor quality with many air holes and varnish runs.

It is wearing a pair of white kid leather shoes with pink bobbles on the front.
