Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This bronze medal depicts Cardinal Christopher Widmann (made Cardinal in 1647). The medal can be compared with a wax portrait of the same sitter (see inv.no. A.32-1932), perhaps made at an earlier date. Johann Jacob Kornmann (d. after 1672) was a goldsmith originally from Augsburg, who worked initially in Venice, and then in Rome from 1630 to 1650, eventually becoming a medallist at the Papal Mint in Rome.
