These earrings were described as made in the Roman Empire, 1st to 4th century AD, in the Jewellery Gallery Summary Catalogue published by the V&A in 1982. More recently Dr Jack Ogden assessed them as 'not ancient' and they were not included in the re-display of the Jewellery Gallery which opened in May 2008.
