The Sleeping Princess was first performed by the Ballets Russes on 21 November 1921 at the Alhambra London the lavish costumes were designed by Leon Bakst, who also designed the scenery.
A scarlet silk-velvet late 18th century style coat embroidered with gold bands at the centre front, pocket flaps and across the back and lined with navy blue glazed cotton. The turned back, fawn felt, cuffs have been appliquéd with silver brocade which is bordered with thick twisted gold braid. On the left shoulder is a green silk ribbon knot. Beneath the jacket is a false waistcoat of bottle green with bands of gold lace. On the left breast is a false medal in silver and gilt metal.
