Gallery rotation, 2022 COSTUME FOR A MAIDEN IN SCENE 1 OF LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS 1913 Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) was one of a series of ballets created for the Ballets Russes, focusing on aspects of Russia. It was inspired by ancient Slavic culture. The patterns on the brightly coloured woollen tunic, made in St Petersburg, may reflect ritual dances, and the jewellery and decoration on the belt are based on archaeological finds.
