This is an electrotype reproduction taken from an original medal, for an example see inv.no. 7711-1863. On one side of the medal the emperor is celebrated as a good Christian. His favourite pastimes are riding and hunting, yet he is also devout and pauses to pray at a wayside cross. Pisanello was a court artist and makes a claim for his own status with an inscription in Latin and Greek, ‘The work of Pisano the painter’.
