This vase was exhibited by Minton at the Great Exhibition of 1851. The shape and turquoise blue colour are in imitation of porcelain from the French manufacturer Sèvres. Throughout the nineteenth century Minton and Sèvres enjoyed a great exchange of styles and ideas, with many designers and painters moving from France to England. These French style vases in the rococo style remained fashionable in England into the 1870s.

Brief description
Vase and cover, bone china, painted, in the Sèvres style, Minton, about 1851.
Physical description
Vase and cover of bone china. Ovoid body, high foot rising from a circular base. On the body are two panels surrounded by gilt branches and reserved in white on a blue background painted in crimson, on one side with two cupids painting, on the other with a cupid eating fruit. Between them are vertical folded bands forming handles, with a row of beads slong the middle. On the shoulder are two shaped panels painted with festoons of roses.
