Shell Casing

ca. 1944 (made)

The shell case that fell on the Prince's Theatre in 1944 damaged the theatre but to a limited extent. The original Shaftesbury Theatre, which was located at 126 Shaftesbury Avenue where the Soho Fire Station is currently based, was destroyed by German bombs on 17 April 1941. As the building was irreparable, the name was given to the old Prince's Theatre instead. The new Shaftesbury Theatre has staged productions such as Follies, Hairspray: The Musical and & Juliet. The building was designed by notable theatre architect Bertie Crew.
