Knife

early 16th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The decorative horse-hoof cap suggests that this knife came from the south Netherlands. It was excavated in London. There are signs of recently active rust in the pits on the blade. The wooden scales on the handle have been pushed out by the expanding rust from the tang underneath (the part onto which the handle is fixed) .
