  • Label for 'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900', Gallery 101, de-canted March 2017: '13 Enamelled Glass Vase About 1850 Jean-François Robert had worked for Sèvres porcelain factory since 1807. In 1837 he patented a technique for enamelling glass and retiered from Sèvres to set up a workshop nearby, to decorate both vessel glass and windows. His new technique was well suited to the vividly coloured, naturalistic decoration fashionable from the 1840s. France, Sèvres; probably decorated by Jean-François Robert Opaline glass; painted in enamels and gilt Museum no. 4622-1901 Transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology'
  • Robert decorated porcelain at Sèvres and, after 1837, set up his own workshop for decorating vessel glass and windows
  • VASE 4622-1901 'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900' Robert was a decorator of porcelain at Sèvres from 1807 to 1843. In 1837 he patented a technique lead glass with enamel and, after retiring from the porcelain factory, set up a workshop nearby for decorating vessel glass and windows. The same year he became the official decorator for Launay, Hautin et Cie, the agents for the Bercy, Choisy, Baccarat and St. Louis glass works.
