This playful image features the animals from Noah's Ark, based on the popular Bible story of paired animals delivered safely from a devastating flood. Like young children being read a story, the animals are shown happily listening to a book read aloud by Noah. This poster would have been issued to promote the pleaure of reading and to encourage children to read.
The Budapest-born illustrator Tibor Gergely emigrated to the United States in 1939 and became a well-known illustrator of children's books.
