Object history | Equestrian portraits of this type, with battles in progress in the distance, were popular in the 17th century. A miniature portrait of Louis XIV in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris (reproduced in L'Art et les Artistes, 1907, p. 69) has several points of similarity with this portrait. |
