Mirza Abu’l-Hasan Khan was Fath Ali Shah’s ambassador to the United Kingdom. On his second mission to London, when this portrait was painted, he delivered a gold dish (also displayed in this case) to the directors of the British East India Company. In this portrait, he is shown wearing the Order of the Lion and the Sun, an order established by Fath Ali Shah.
